- fantastic beautiful land of "a green gold" : woods, gardens,
vineyards, amazingly picturesque mountains and valleys, curative
mineral sources. Nowadays, Transcarpathia is the most interesting
place of Ukraine, where you can nicely spend your time and
know more about its original history and culture. Verhovyna
and Gutzulsshina, fortresses and wooden churches, lake of
Synevir and museum under the open air are retained for those,
who come to this hospitable land. But the main treasure of
Transcarpathia is its people. Simple, good-natured, with open
heart and soul, they always accept you with hospitality.

GENERAL INFORMATION
ABOUT TRANSCARPATHIA
The administrative and
territorial device: An administrative region of Ukraine,
consists of 13 districts and 4 towns of regional subordination
(Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Beregovo, Khust). There are 10 towns,
20 settlements of urban type and other 609 settlements.
The area: 12,8 thousand
sq. kilometers. Its more than 2 % of a whole territory of
Ukraine.
Administrative center:
The town of Uzhgorod (126 thousand inhabitants) Geograpyical
position;
The region is settled an extremely
southern west of Ukraine, takes the southeast part of East
Carpathians and northeast part of Srednedunayskaya lowland.
Northern and eastern parts of the region are mountainous,
southern part is lowland.
Heights above a sea level:
The highest peak is Goverla mountain (2061 meters above a
sea level), lowermost point is nearby the town of Chop (101
meters above a sea level).
The region borders:
With eastern European states: Slovakian Republic , Hungarian
Republic, Romanian Republic and Polish Republic, and also
with Ivano-Frankovsk and Lviv regions of Ukraine.
Climate: The climate
of the region is moderate and continental. Average temperature
in summer is + 21 C, in winter -4C. The short spring, not
hot summer, warm autumn and soft winter are typical for this
region.

National structure of the
population: Ukrainians- 78,4 %, Hungarians - 12,5 %, Russians-
4 %, Romanians - 2,4 %, Gypsies - 1%, Slovaks- 0,6 %, Germans
- 0,3%, Jews - 0,2 % and others.
Official language:
Ukrainian. But the population of the region also speak Russian,
Hungarian, Slovak, Romanian and other languages.
Monuments of archaeology,
history, culture: Transcarpatia is considered to be one
of the centers of western and eastern cultures crossing/and
its own culture is a part of a global cultural heritage.
There are 1839 monuments
of archaeology, history and art in the region, among which
6 of nation significance.
The silent representatives
of the last epoch are Goryanskaya rotonda of XII century,
castle of franciscans of XV century, Cathedral of ???
XVII century, castle Palanok
of XVI-XVII centuries, palace of Shenborn counts of XIX century
and others.
Nature reserved fund makes
12 % of the area of the region, 146 thousand hectares.
The largest and the
most attractive nature reserved territories:
- Carpathian biosphere reserve,
- national park Sinevir,
- Uzhansky national natural park.
Hydromineral and nature
recreational resources: The largest treasure of Transcarpathia
are woods, which take 50 % of its territory. The total area
, covered with woods, reaches 700 thousand hectares.
360 mineral waters springs,
various in their structure and medicinal properties have been
investigated in the region. Their total debit makes about
10 thousand cubic meters per day. Some deposits are unique,
their water corresponds to such well known healing waters
as "Yesentuki", "Borzhomi" and "Arzni"
and do not concede to known mineral waters of Czech republic,
Poland, France.
Transcarpathian mineral
waters are the remarkable basis for the resort treatment organization.
In the region there are
more than twenty deposits of subthermal, thermal and highthermal
waters.
Sanatoria of Transcarpathia:
- "Solnechnoye Zakarpatye", "Polyana",
"Kvitka Polonyny", "Verhovyna", "Shayan"
- indications for treatment: diseases of digestive organs.
- "Karpaty", "Zhemchuzhina Karpat",

Tourist centers "Forel",
"Nartsiss", "Polonina", "Plai",
"Svitanok" are known far outside of Ukraine. Ascensions
on Goverla and other mountains, foot, bus, combined routes,
horse or bicycle walk, rafting through Tisa, hunting rounds,
"a silent hunt" on mushrooms and berries are still
available to the amateurs of active rest.
Wide choice of comfortable
private tourist accommodations is offered to the tourists:
they are the hotel complex "U Tarasa ", tourist
center "Dubovy gai", hotel and sports complex "Voyevodino",
motel "Nadiya", mountain ski centers "Dragobrat",

home coziness. There are tourists hiring centers with tourist
equipment and stock, and 36 operating elevators in the region.
The most popular mountain ski complexes are "Dragobrat",
"Krasiya" and "Sinyak".
In Transcarpathia there
are a lot of attractive places for the tourists. Some of them
are unique. Here is the brief description of the most famous
of them:
- Mountain Goverla is the highest peak of Ukrainian Carpathians
(its height is 2061 meters above a sea level, which attracts
the fans of extreme kinds of tourism. As a rule, it is opened
from May till November.
- Polonina Dragobrat is the "tourist Mecca "
for the admirers of mountain siding rest (its height is
1700 meters above a sea level). The difference of heights
is about 500 m. The snow cover is being kept from the beginning
of November to the beginning of June. The infrastructure
of winter rest here is well advanced. There are 8 tourist
centers and private hotels of high-grade service, 4 mountain-ski
elevators (length from 3 50 up to 1100 meters) here.
- Lake of Sinevir is one of the most beautiful high-mountainous
lakes in Carpathians. It was formed with a result of a collapse
many years ago, still in glacial epoch. The lake is located
at height 989 meters above a sea level. Its general area
of water smooth surface is 7 hectares, the greatest depth
is 20m. The tourist centers "Sinevirskoye ozero"
and "Morskoye oko " are located nearby the lake.
- Valley of narcissus is the unique place of Ukraine and
CIS, where one can find natural wild narrow-leaved narcissus.
Similar places, but with smaller area, have remained only
in few places - Alps, Romania and some Balkan countries.
The mass blossoming of plants in April and May leaves in
people who saw this perfect show the unforgettable impressions.
- The geographical center of Europe - is located in Transcarpathia,
in Rahiv district. The symbolical monumental sign has been
established here, where the following words written in Latin
are: "Constant, precisely eternal place. Very precisely,
with the special device, which was made in Empire of Austria
and Hungary, with a scale of meridians and parallels, the
center of Europe has been established here. 1887".
Though who has once visited
Transcarpathia, called Ukrainian Switzerland, will never forget
this amazing region, as specially created by God for
people forever fall in love with its ancient dark blue mountains,
crystal lakes and transparent air, filled with curative freshness.
